The Chemistry Department has recieved two new grants to enhance our laboratory facilities, instruction, and research. Dr. Thom Spence is PI with Drs. Kurt Birdwhistell, Bill Walkenhorst, and Joelle Underwood on a ~$230,000 grant to renovate a new Forensics Chemistry Laboratory, purchase state-of-the-art equipment for the lab, and enhance our instruction in forensics chemistry. Dr. Joelle Underwood is PI on a ~$72,000 grant to purchase a new atomic absorption spectrometer for use in our physical and analytical courses and in research. Welcome to Dr. Maria Calzada! Dr. Calzada is a professor in the Loyola University Mathematics Department. She has recieved a NSF grant to support research and course development with Dr. Thom Spence. She will be with the Chemistry Department for the Spring 2008 and Fall 2008 semesters. The second phase of the Monroe chemistry laboratories began in December 2007. When completed, the renovated space will include new teaching laboratories, a state-of-the-art lecture hall, and departmental offices. We look forward to moving into our new space during the fall of 2008.
