Welcome to the Department of Chemistry at Loyola University New Orleans.  We offer Bachelor of Science degrees in Chemistry, Biochemistry and Forensic Chemistry.  Our faculty and staff are dedicated to the mission of providing both a nationally competitive curriculum and a variety of exciting undergraduate research opportunities.  We pride ourselves on our commitment to our students and their success.  Our facilities house an impressive array of instrumentation used directly by undergraduates in both teaching and research laboratories.  As a result of our commitment to excellence, our department has experienced dramatic growth over the past decade and our graduates are being accepted into prestigious graduate and medical programs across the country.  Please take a moment to learn about our three degree-granting programs and please feel free to contact us if you have any questions about the department or career opportunities in the chemical sciences.

There are two new developments I would like to mention specifically.

  • Renovation of our general chemistry laboratories and Keck collaborative learning center (formally MO120) are underway and are scheduled for completion before the start of the fall 2008 semester.
  • We have recently received two equipment grants from the Louisiana Board of Regents for over $300,000 to be used in part to establish a forensic chemistry laboratory to support a new advanced course in forensic analytical chemistry as well as undergraduate research projects in areas related to forensic analytical chemistry.
